Busch Gardens had developed a daredevil-themed roller coaster attraction called “Tempesto.” Still under construction at the time of production, the 90 Degrees West VFX team told the daredevils’ tale by creating 3D models based off of stock photography and then digitally projected the image onto the models as textures. This allowed us to bring the still photos to life and create much more dynamic moves around the people and objects than the simple parallax typically done to photographs.
We also had to capture the excitement of the ride itself, which again, hadn’t been built yet, so a 3D model and adrenaline-pumping animation did the trick. Check out the vfx breakdown.
